LIMA —The owner and operator of a new insurance office in Lima expressed excitement about optimism about the opportunities for the new office.
Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce and Shelter Insurance conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday as part of its grand opening at 2348 Shawnee Road.
“It’s a great location, with high traffic count and good visibility,” said owner Steve Collins, who is from Lima and has been in the insurance industry since the mid-1990s.
Several members of the chamber, including president/CEO Jed Metzger and Deb Katzenmeyer, were on hand for the occasion.
“We are very supportive of small businesses and their owners,” said Metzger, who handled the giant scissors and helped Collins slice the ceremonial red ribbon. “It is significant to Lima when someone here has a vision and the training to run a company.”
Metzger asserted the chamber will provide the resources necessary “to help Shelter grow and succeed.”
Collins had a straightforward reason for choosing a career in the insurance business.
“I really like to help people add value, save money or find solutions,” he said. “I explain why and how because it’s important for clients to understand everything I do.”
Although Collins is currently the only employee at the new Shelter location, he didn’t rule out the possibility of hiring an assistant after the business gains exposure.
Shelter Insurance, originally known as MFA Mutual Insurance Company, was founded in Missouri 75 years ago. It handles auto, home, business, life and renters insurance in 15 states.
