LIMA — Mercy Health is consolidating its air and ground medical transportation services in February.
The Mercy Health-Life Flight Network will combine the health system’s existing Life Flight network with its LACP and LifeStar ground transportation services, which is expected to be operational by Feb. 1. The air network will continue to fly out of Bluffton.
“LACP is proud to bring high-quality and expedient transportation services to the Lima area community every day and with this new consolidation, the team will become even more efficient and effective as we continue to provide emergency care for our patients,” Ronda Lehman, president of Mercy Health-Lima, said in a press release. “We’re excited to announce Mercy Health-Life Flight Network to our patients and our community.”
The consolidated unit will consist of five multi-engine helicopters, five mobile intensive care units, 28 ambulances and 12 ambulettes, which will serve 11,500 square miles of Northwest Ohio, West Central Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
“In a life-threatening medical or injury situation, time is of critical importance. By consolidating air and ground medical transportation, Mercy Health-Life Flight Network can respond even more efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality care and service to our patients,” Dr. Matt Owens, chief clinical officer of Mercy Health-Lima, said in a press release.
Mercy Health’s Life Flight program was the first in the area to establish its own air ambulance service in 1979. The air ambulances have transported more than 100,000 critically ill and injured people since that time, the company said.
