LIMA — A popular personal chef is expanding his catering company with a new sandwich shop and cafe on Cole Street.
Lima’s Finest Food Company, founded by local chef Daniel Hobbs in 2018, started selling Hobbs’ gourmet burgers, tacos and deli sandwiches to the public after the coronavirus pandemic disrupted his usual catering and meal prep ventures.
He’d already been weighing the prospect of opening a small bistro, so Hobbs and his crew spent the past few months remodeling their catering shop at 1250 N. Cole St. to include a miniature café. A small bar where patrons can dine-in or order carryout will be ready soon, while an outdoor seating area is coming later in 2021.
The menu consists of a combination of gourmet burgers, French roll sandwiches and what Hobbs calls pizza-box nachos — a pizza box filled with nachos topped with a variety of meats like barbecue brisket, pulled pork or grilled chicken and other toppings.
There are tacos and quesadillas stuffed with pulled pork, or French fries loaded with chicken, jalapeno cream cheese and other toppings.
Hobbs has even developed a menu of what he’s calling gorilla bowls filled with dozens of toppings like macaroni and cheese, brisket and Doritos.
The cafe is still undergoing renovation, but Hobbs plans to open the shop to the public at 11 a.m. most days.
