NORTHFIELD, Ohio – MGM Northfield Park, Ohio’s busiest gambling center, announced Friday that it will reopen its racino at noon on Saturday, June 20.
The announcement comes after clearance from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office that Ohio’s 11 casinos and racinos could reopen as early as June 19. They have been closed since March 14 following the governor’s orders to limit large gatherings because of coronavirus concerns.
JACK Entertainment said earlier that it planned to reopen both its Cleveland casino and Thisteldown Racino in North Randall on June 19.
MGM said it planned an invitation-only event before the opening to the public at noon, June 20.
The slots facility will operate at 50% capacity, per guidelines from the Ohio Lottery Commission, MGM said. The slots, officially known as video lottery terminals, will be positioned to allow for “appropriate physical distancing,” MGM said, and there will be no valet parking.
“As with our other resort reopenings, health and safety remain a top priority in every phase of our plan,” MGM Resorts International Acting CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle said in the announcement. “We look forward to providing a safe and fun environment for everyone to enjoy our gaming, restaurant and horse racing amenities.”
Employees will wear masks, guests are “strongly encouraged” to wear masks that will be made available for free, and a physical distancing policy will be enforced, MGM said.
Harness racing at Northfield Park, without spectators, resumed May 26.
