Victims identified in Columbus Grove house fire

COLUMBUS GROVE — Columbus Grove Fire Chief Bob Brubaker on Monday identified the individuals who perished in a Putnam County house fire Saturday. Shane Springer and Bobbi Gross died at the scene, the chief said.

The Columbus Grove Fire Department responded to a fire at 108 N. Main St., Columbus Grove, at 9:47 a.m. Saturday. Upon their arrival firefighters found heavy fire at the back of the structure.

In addition to Springer and Gross there were five other people inside the building at the time of the fire, Brubaker said. Those persons made it out of the home before firefighters arrived.

The structure was a total loss and the fire remains under investigation.

The two-story home was owned by Rebecca Higginbotham, according to records from the Putnam County Auditor’s Office. It was valued at $57,000.

Other agencies on the scene were the Glandorf Fire Department, Pandora Riley Township Fire Department, Columbus Grove EMS, Putnam County EMS, the Putnam County coroner, Putnam County EMA and American Red Cross.
