Lima woman dies in three-vehicle accident

SPENCERVILLE — A Lima woman died Wednesday morning following a three-vehicle traffic crash near the intersection of Sunderland Road and Spencerville Road.

Felicia M. Higginbotham, 20, of Lima, died in the crash, which happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Higginbotham drove a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt north on Sunderland Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at Spencerville Road, according to the highway patrol. Her vehicle entered the intersection and struck a westbound 1996 Kenworth semi truck, operating by Nicholas J. Myers, 34, of Grover Hill.

After that initial impact, Higginbotham’s Cobalt was struck by an eastbound 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Jeffrey D. Hunt, 60, of Lima. Both the Cobalt and he Grand Cherokee went off the south side of the roadway and came to rest. The semi remained on the roadway after coming to a stop west of the intersection.

Spencerville EMS transported Hunt to Mercy-St. Rita’s Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Spencerville EMS treated Myers at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol and drug use are not believed to be factors, according to the highway patrol.
