Glenn calls for help for elderly residents

LIMA — Lima City Councilman Dr. Derry Glenn held a press conference Thursday calling for help for elderly residents whose Wayne Street home is forcing them to move due to a foundation in need of repair.

Glenn said he overheard the homeowner expressing a need for help and decided to put the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project Fund to use to solve the problem.

“We have a family here that are 80 years old and we are trying to help them out with some things that they can’t afford,” he said. “We want to show our hometown pride by continuing donations we’ve been doing for years with our project fund.”

The residents of the home, whom Glenn described as elderly, sick and low-income, have lived in the house for 30 years and in Lima their entire lives.

“My goal is to continue making Lima a better place to live,” he said. “I don’t want to see these people have to leave and go to a nursing home or an apartment complex. They’ve been here for years.”

Glenn asked for businesses in the area and anyone interested to donate to the Lima Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1086, Lima, OH 45802 and reference account #00157.

“We’ll make sure we get some contractors out here and work on some of the work they need done here,” he added. “But the main thing is the foundation so we will get that fixed and then we will work our way inside the home to help them out there.”

Glenn said it is a win-win to help out the elderly and show how Lima residents work together to make good things happen.

“You’d be involved with something good and you’d be helping the elderly out,” he said. “That’s what excites me so much about that. I know we have some good companies out there that have helped out in the past and we hope they continue doing that to show appreciation in our community.”

The house is located at 1401 W. Wayne St. in Lima.
