Beatles tribute headlines amphitheater schedule

LIMA — There will be a full slate of entertainment at the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater this summer.

Veterans Memorial Civic Center CEO Abe Ambroza announced 14 events at Wednesday’s mayoral press conference, starting with National Day of Prayer on May 2.

“We’re really excited to be able to announce a portion today,” he said. “And I say a portion because while there is a lot here, there is still more to come. I actually just got a confirmation from one of these shows this morning, so that’s how it happens sometimes.”

Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith added, “We think that what we have is something everyone in our community will enjoy. There is a broad range of music and things for individuals to enjoy with their families or on a date night.”

A Beatles tribute, a Taylor Swift-themed laser show, the Lima Music Festival and select Curtain Call shows will be among the shows lined up to run through Sept. 21 at Lima’s new outdoor amphitheater, which opened last August.

“We expect to have more things coming as we announce the schedule,” Ambroza added. “Just look forward to many great summers to come at this wonderful venue.”

After the press conference, Ambroza said all shows would be easy to afford for families.

“That’s always the mission and all of these shows that we have right now are definitely going to be very affordable,” he said. “The Taylor Swift laser show (part of Lima Rotary Club Weekend on July 26 and 27), for example, will be $20 a ticket. So we’re doing all we can to make sure that these prices are perfect for the whole family to come down and enjoy some live entertainment.”

The shows will not interfere with events at the Civic Center.

“When I was first asked if we would want to be a part of this, that was the mission from my board and also my own mission,” Ambroza said. “I don’t want to take away something that would be happening in other areas. Both venues are going to be used throughout the summer because we’re just trying to find shows that are suited for outdoor space and indoor, whether they’re fundraisers or new local events.”
