ROCKFORD — A Rockford man died Saturday night after his utility terrain vehicle struck a ditch, rolled several times and ejected him.
Dylan R. Bigelow, 25, of Rockford, was transported from the scene to Van Wert Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office received a call at 9:57 p.m. Saturday about a crash in the area of 3416 Rockford West Road in Dublin Township.
Deputies learned a 2019 black Polaris Turbo UTV driven by Bigelow was westbound on Rockford West Road when it went off the south side of the road. Bigelow overcorrected, causing him to lose control and travel to the north side of the road. He then hit the ditch, causing him to be ejected while the UTV flipped several times before coming to rest in the field north of the roadway.
Rockford Squad 4 transported Bigelow to the hospital. Rockford EMS and the Rockford Fire Department assisted at the scene.
