Putnam County selects new commissioners

OTTAWA — Both incumbents in the races for two Putnam County commissioner spots will be replaced following Tuesday night’s election results.

Brad Brubaker will assume Michael Lammers’ spot, and Tim Wehri will take Vincent Shroeder’s spot, among other results.

“I am extremely humbled and grateful for the voters that came out and supported me to be the next commissioner for the Jan. 2, 2025 term,” Brubaker said. “I’m looking forward to being the next county commissioner.”

In an exit poll, Columbus Grove resident Michelle Ricker said that she chose Wehri and Brubaker because she knew Wehri growing up when he served as a substitute teacher and because Brubaker is local.

Schroeder issued a statement following his defeat.

“I am honored and thankful to have served the people of Putnam County as commissioner for the last 20 years,” Schroeder said in a statement. “Many good things were accomplished during that time, and I will continue to work hard throughout the remainder of the year. Putnam County is such a wonderful place to live and raise a family, and I will do all I can to keep it a county we can be proud to pass to the next generation. Thanks to all you that supported me these past 20 years.”

The Lima News has also reached out to Lammers and Wehri for comment.

The county also chose Bernie Moreno as the Republican nominee to challenge incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, a result that the state as a whole agreed with.

Incumbent Congressman Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, beat challenger Robert Owsiak, a result followed by the district overall, and will be matched with Democrat nominee Keith Mundy, who ran unopposed, in November.

Former President Trump, who has already secured the Republican nomination for president was overwhelmingly selected by the county, as was President Biden on the Democratic side.
