Design Review Board approves new signage

LIMA —The Lima Design Review Board met Thursday to take a look at several projects.

The board approved measures to improve a parking lot, install a new roof at a local business and install new signage at various locations.

Local businessman John Heaphy shared plans to install signage to encourage parking at the Allen County Children’s Services lot after hours and a new electronic sign at the gateway for the coming Spring and Main development.

The parking signage advertises free public parking weeknights from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and on weekends unless there is a Veterans Memorial Civic Center event.

A five-foot wide and 10-foot tall monument containing an electronic sign will go up next to the Spring and Main gateway and will advertise Heaphy’s businesses, including Old City Prime and the Upper Lounge, and amphitheater shows, as well as other area events, but Heaphy said he would not be selling ads.

Heaphy also will install an awning at Betsey’s Boutique Shop, which will occupy a space vacated by Sherwin-Williams.

The board approved parking lot improvement plans for the Imperial Inn and the space near Cook Tower.

It also approved a roofing project for the Wegner Insurance building.

These projects will go back to the city for permits to be issued.
