Autopsy: Woman strangled at American Township home

AMERICAN TOWNSHIP — A 26-year-old woman found at a Makley Drive home Sunday afternoon died from strangulation with blunt force injuries. The autopsy ruled her death a homicide.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office announced the results from the preliminary autopsy at the Lucas County coroner’s office Wednesday morning.

Authorities haven’t released the identity of the woman, pending notification of her next of kin. They do have documentation for her and believe they know her identity.

No one has been arrested yet in the case. The sheriff’s office announced Monday it questioned several people in the case, but they were released without charges filed at that time.

Major Andre McConnahea, the public information officer for the sheriff’s office, wrote via email authorities believe the woman may be a citizen of Haiti, based on information offered by other people at the residence.

“We are working to ascertain whether or not (the) victim was legally present in the United States,” McConnahea wrote. “The documentation present appears to be from the federal government, and we are utilizing their services to ascertain the validity of those documents.”

Authorities originally received a call at 2:10 p.m. Sunday about a woman needing medical care at 2982 Makley Drive, Lima, from a caller speaking limited English.

When they arrived, they found the 26-year-old woman lying unresponsive in bed within a bedroom. The American Township Fire Department arrived and checked for signs of life before pronouncing her dead at the scene.
