Runnings embraces new beginning

LIMA — After years in the making, one store has a new name in Lima. Runnings hosted its grand re-opening Friday morning. The store was previously owned and operated by several other companies. Manager Chris Nance said the store never officially closed while in between leadership but it looks forward to its new beginning.

“We started as Big R,” Nance said. “Then we were Stock and Field and then we were RP Lumber. Now the Reed family was nice enough to take us on. This is just going to be great. We are so excited.”

It is now under the new ownership of Dennis and Adele Reed. According to the company website, Runnings has been in business for over 75 years. Nance also said the Reeds purchased the store on Father’s Day of last year. The Runnings sign was officially placed on the building at the beginning of February.

“We are so excited to be in the Lima community,” Nance said. “We would like to thank Dennis and Adele Reed for bringing this wonderful store here to Lima. We are excited to be here in the community. I would like to thank my team here and all the other stores to get to this point. We would love for everyone in the community to go check us out. We will be here the rest of the weekend.”

To attract business, the store ran an early bird giveaway from March 7 until March 9. Customers were reportedly eager and waiting outside the doors for the chance to receive gift cards with a value between $10 to $250.

“The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be here at Runnings’ grand opening,” President Jed Metzger said. “This is a great opportunity for the community to have products and supplies and all kinds of things. We really appreciate their investment in the community.”

The store is located at 975 N. Cable Road. Nance also said the store has a “little bit of everything,” from sporting goods to animal products.

“We want people to come and check us out,” Nance said. “We are the friendliest store in Lima. Customer service is our top priority.”
