Jones sworn in to Lima City Council

LIMA — Lima City Council swore in new council member Thomas Jones at Monday night’s meeting.

Jones, a lifelong Lima resident, assumed his place as the representative of the city’s fifth ward, filling the seat vacated by council president Jamie Dixon’s ascension to that role.

“I was excited,” Jones said. “A lot of family came out to support me and a few kids from my basketball team did too. It was a good time.”

Council members welcomed Jones, who was announced at the beginning of the month.

“TJ brings a whole new light to this council,” Peggy Ehora said. “He’s going to be a great addition to Lima City Council.”

“It’s exciting to welcome a new member,” Mayor Sharetta Smith said. “I knew Mr. Jones’ mom very well and to see him here today and get sworn in by his grandmother was an emotional moment. I wish him all the best and appreciate his desire to serve the community.”

Jones, known as TJ by friends, said that he is ready to step into Dixon’s seat and present his own agenda, as well.

“I’m honored,” he said. “I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and hearing all their concerns and seeing what I can do to add to the solutions.”

Lima Council passed all ordinances on the agenda, including one to establish the budget for the new fiscal year.
