Prep Roundup: Bath girls take down Defiance

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bath 54, Defiance 25

BATH TOWNSHIP — Bath used a balanced effort across the board to eliminate Defiance in its tournament opener.

Izzy McDermott scored 19 points for the Wildkittens, while Anne Oliver added 14 points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Bath will host Napoleon on Saturday in the sectional finals.

St. Marys 65, Kenton 54

ST. MARYS — Reagan Allemeier and Cadence Hirschfield each scored 15 points to lead St. Marys to a sectional semifinal win over Kenton.

Sadie Larrabee scored 23 points for the Wildcats, while Sidney Payne added 15.

Wayne Trace 35, Fort Recovery 30

HAVILAND — Lexi Moore scored 15 points and hauled in 13 rebounds for Wayne Trace in a five-point win over Fort Recovery.

The Raiders move on to face Parkway on Saturday in the next round.

Liberty-Benton 58, Celina 27

FINDLAY — Lauren Gerken scored a game-high 26 points, leading Liberty-Benton past Celina in the first round of the postseason.

Rachel Rammel paced Celina with 17 points.

Coldwater 46, Van Buren 44

COLDWATER — Coldwater held on for a two-point win over Van Buren in its tournament opener.

Madison Wendel scored 13 points for the Cavaliers, while Claire Steinke added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Bryan 67, Otsego 19

BRYAN — Kailee Thiel had 13 points, and Ella Rau added 11 in Bryan’s dominant first-round win over Otsego.

The Golden Bears meet Elida on Saturday with a sectional title on the line.

Paulding 50, Bluffton 49

PAULDING — Paulding held on for a narrow victory over Bluffton to set up a meeting with Delphos Jefferson in the next round on Saturday.

Wauseon 45, Maumee 31

WAUSEON — Sophia Rupp scored 17 points to lead Wauseon past Maumee in the sectional semifinals.

The Indians advance to a Saturday matchup against Liberty-Benton.

Rodgers 66, Shawnee 43

TOLEDO — Grace Freiberger scored 16 points, but it wasn’t enough for Shawnee to advance past Rodgers in the first round of tournament action.

Elida 37, Van Wert 22

ELIDA — The Bulldogs avenged a regular season loss to Van Wert with a 15-point win, setting up a sectional championship matchup against Bryan on Saturday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Miller City 56, Paulding 46

MILLER CITY — Jude Otto scored a game-high 20 points for Miller City in a 10-point win over Paulding.

Ethan Barlage added 11 points for the Wildcats, while Paulding looked to Kane Jones for 16 points.

Fort Jennings 69, Leipsic 60

LEIPSIC — Jarron Swick scored 25 points and surpassed 1,000 career points in Fort Jennings’ nine-point win over Leipsic.

For the Vikings, Brevin Brandt scored 25 points, and Ty Lammers added 20.
