Brunch to empower women in business

LIMA — A group of businesswomen is creating an entrepreneurial event to celebrate other women and network.

Meagan Horton, founder of “Mega Pop-Up Shop,” and several panelists will host a brunch titled “Baddies in Business.”

“We want to bring awareness to small businesses,” collaborator Robin Dukes said. “There are a lot of small businesses operating out of their homes. They may not have the marketing dollars to put their businesses on billboards and signs. This may be their only way to get awareness.”

The networking event will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, March 9, Veterans Memorial Civic Center, 7 Town Square, Lima.

Horton began hosting pop-up events for community members after first discovering them in Columbus.

“With this event, we want to connect everyone,” Horton said. “A lot of people do not know the resources that are here in Lima. We can go to one another instead of shopping at Amazon or going out of town. We have so much right here.”

Horton also hopes to encourage all women in business to join the event.

“She is well known in the Black community, but it is for all women,” Dukes said. “Some people think her events are only for the Black community, but all are welcome. The events are inclusive and for anyone.”

Participants are simply asked to bring their business cards, a donation to the Samaritan House and Guiding Light and wear pink. Community members can bring grocery items, hygiene products, office supplies and clothing items. The coordinators will also provide free headshots, raffles, lunch and more.
