Shane Wireman, the former head football coach at Waynesfield-Goshen, was named Shawnee’s new head football coach on Tuesday. Wireman led the Tigers to two straight outright NWCC titles over the past two seasons.

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee made it official on Tuesday afternoon, announcing Shane Wireman as its new head football coach.
Wireman, who comes over to Shawnee from Waynesfield-Goshen, is the Indians’ third head coach in three years.
The Allen East native and Ohio State grad takes over for Mike Lewis, who stepped in following the resignation of Jerry Cooper in April of 2023.
Lewis went 0-10 in his lone season leading the Indians.
Over the past two years at Waynesfield-Goshen, Wiremen led the Tigers to two straight 10-0 seasons. In 2022, Wireman was named the Dream Team Coach of the Year.
A statement from Wiremen was included in Tuesday’s press release.
“It is an honor to join Shawnee High School as the head football coach and build upon the strong reputation that Shawnee has had throughout its history,” he said. “Throughout my career as a coach and educator, I have always held athletes and students to high standards, which helped me establish a culture of excellence on and off the field. The Shawnee community is known for excellence in athletics and academics, and I am confident that I will contribute to these programs.”
Wireman graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education, specializing in Middle Childhood Education. He’s an experienced Intervention Specialist, as well as a math and social studies teacher.
“The Shawnee community is excited to welcome Coach Wireman to lead our football program and be a part of our thriving community,” Shawnee High School Principal Dylan Dronberger said. “Throughout his career, it has been evident that Shane has prioritized building strong relationships between his team, fellow students, school administrators, and the community. One of Shawnee’s core values is relationship building, and I am confident that Shane will uphold this key element that makes Shawnee a place to live and learn.”
Wireman spent the past eight seasons as the head coach at Waynesfield-Goshen. He inherited a team that went 0-10 in 2016.
Three seasons later, Wireman led the Tigers to a winning record, and in the past two years, his teams have won two straight outright NWCC titles.
Steve Owen, Shawnee Athletic Director, stated, “Shane built an impressive program at Waynesfield-Goshen, which led to him being named the Dream Team Coach of the Year in 2022. His leadership skills enable him to inspire athletes and his passion for the sport will inspire the community to continually rally around the Shawnee High School football program. We welcome Shane with open arms and look forward to supporting him.”
