City Club to host dinner and fashion show for charity

LIMA — A unique event is coming to the City Club this Saturday and it is all for a good cause.

Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, a local church, is bringing the Dine and Style Symphony to town starting at 5 p.m. Saturday.

“It’s a community fundraiser where we’re going to dine and have a fashion show and some of the proceeds will go back into the community,” organizer Angela Wilson said. “We want to be able to give people coats, gloves and things like that. We want to provide bus passes for people who are returning to the workforce and need to get a job interview.”

Wilson, who also serves a secretary for the church, said that it means a lot to hold an event like this and give back to the community.

“I got a call from someone all the way from California who will be here this weekend,” she said. “It’s really humbling and it shows that it’s needed. It’s a safe place to go and see something different and have a good time.”

And with a new pastor leading the congregation, it is important for the church to reach out and help the community.

“Some people are never going to go into a sanctuary,” Wilson said. “We just want to be a face to people to show that ministry is not just coming in, but it’s helping each other’s communities. We don’t want any walls to be barriers.”

And for anyone interested in going to the event, Wilson said to be prepared to have a good time as long as they have open minds and hearts.

“They can expect a good food,” she said. “For the fashion show, we have some local designers. We will have some dress wear, casual wear and African attire in the hopes of bringing everybody together.”

Above all, though, Wilson said she hopes the event inspires people to get out of their comfort zone.

“I hope people will look beyond the four walls of ministry like I said,” she said. “I hope people will beyond racial and cultural variables and see us as a community.”
