Girls Basketball: Tournament draw reveals postseason paths

Area high school girls basketball teams learned their tournament trail on Sunday with the release of the sectional/district brackets.

The higher-seeded team in each of the first two matchups hosts, before games move to neutral sites at the district level.

In the Division IV Elida District, Ottoville (16-4) drew a bye in the opening round and faces the winner of Cory-Rawson (7-12) and LCC ( 2-17) on Saturday, Feb. 24. The first-round matchup between Cory Rawson and LCC takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Miller City (12-6) also skips the sectional semifinals, awaiting the winner of Leipsic (7-10) and St. John’s (4-15) on Feb. 24.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Columbus Grove (15-4) automatically advances to the sectional title game on Feb. 24. They’ll take on the winner of the Feb. 21 matchup between Pandora-Gilboa (8-12) and Fort Jennings (3-16).

Lincolnview (11-8) and Continental (0-17) will square off in the last remaining first-round game on Feb. 21. The winner gets Kalida (12-6) on Feb. 24.

In the Division IV Wapakoneta District, New Knoxville (2-17) leads off the bracket by advancing straight to the sectional finals. Minster (14-5) and Ridgemont (3-13) meet on Feb. 21 for the right to face the Rangers on Feb. 24

Perry (13-5) drew a first-round bye. The Commodores will play the winner of Spencerville (11-8) and New Bremen (9-10) on Feb. 24, following the matchup between the Bearcats and Cardinals on Feb 21.

Upper Scioto Valley (5-15) gets the winner of Marion Local (13-5) and Hardin-Northern (3-15) on Feb. 24. The Flyers and Polar Bears meet on Feb. 21.

St. Henry (11-5) drew the final first-round bye of the bracket. Ada (7-11) and Waynesfied-Goshen (9-10) determine the sectional title matchup set for Feb. 24 with an opening round meeting on Feb. 21.

In the Division III Elida District, Parkway (12-5) skips the first round, while Wayne Trace (11-7) and Fort Recovery (6-12) square off on Feb. 22 for the right to play the Panthers on Feb. 24.

Ottawa-Glandorf (17-2) meets Elmwood (2-16) in an already-determined sectional title game on Feb. 24.

Delphos Jefferson (15-3) also earns a first-round bye. They’ll get the winner of the Feb. 22 matchup between Paulding (8-9) and Bluffton (7-12) on Feb. 24.

Van Buren (7-12) and Coldwater (7-11) are set for a sectional semifinal meeting on Feb. 22, before the winner takes on Allen East (16-2) on Feb. 24.

In the Division II Miller City District, Bath (12-6) and Defiance (1-17) meet on Feb. 22 to determine who faces Napoleon (8-10) on Feb. 24.

Wauseon (10-8) and Maumee (13-7) play each other on Feb. 22, as do Celina (7-12) and Liberty-Benton (14-4). The winners play on Feb. 24.

Other semifinal games being played on Feb. 22 include Bryan (17-1) and Otsego (2-17), along with Elida (6-13) and Van Wert (5-14). Winners of these two games also meet up on Feb. 24.

The bracket’s last two semifinal games are between St. Marys (10-8) and Kenton (8-11), and Shawnee (7-10) and Rogers (12-7), with the sectional title game set for Feb. 24 between the winners.

In the Division I Sandusky District, Lima Senior (10-10) takes on Mansfield Madison Comprehensive (8-11) on Feb. 21. Findlay (13-5) gets the winner on Feb. 24.

Wapakoneta (7-11) is also in the bracket, lined up to face Holland Springfield (7-12) on Feb. 21. Should the Redskins advance, they’ll take on Ashland (9-11) on Feb. 24.
