Lima Symphony partners with Alter Ego for family concert

LIMA — Families and friends can gather for a fun afternoon out on Sunday. The Lima Symphony Orchestra will host its annual family concert. The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the Veteran’s Memorial Civic Center, 7 Town Square.

“Every year the Lima Symphony does a family concert,” Marketing and Education Coordinator Lydia Butterfield said. “We get the opportunity to have kids come and have a program that is more geared toward them. It is also something the parents will enjoy. The theme is Superheroes and Supervillains.”

Butterfield also said the music will come from movies including The Avengers, Star Wars, Spiderman, Superman and Cruella De Vil.

The concert will not only include music but live-action figures from the stories so many love. The Lima Symphony Orchestra is partnering with Alter Ego Comics to create fun for the entire family.

“Alter Ego Comic is bringing cosplayers,” Butterfield said. “They’re gonna be all dressed up in these costumes on stage and everything. It will be so much fun — what sets the concert apart is we will allow the kids to get up on stage and dance if they want.”

Children of all ages will have the opportunity to experience the music from the films in a different way.

“I am excited to hear some of the music brought to the stage,” Butterfield said. “It (the music) is very different from the movie. You can just focus on the music live — I think it is more exciting.”

In addition to hosting an annual concert for families, the symphony also has educational programs to engage with the younger generation.

“We do a young people’s concert, as well,” Butterfield said. “That one is during the weekday and people bring kids from the schools. We also have Symphony Storytime and Mornings with the Maestro.”

The concert will last for about one hour with no intermission. Tickets are available for purchase for $10 at the door.
