Spherion re-opens in Metro Center

LIMA — A longtime Lima business is getting a fresh start in a new space in downtown Lima.

Spherion of Lima re-opened its doors in the Metro Center, 127 N. Elizabeth St., a building now known for its high-end, upper-floor apartments. Spherion is the first business to make the newly renovated building its home.

“Spherion is part of a larger organization called Randstad which is a global staffing and recruiting entity,” franchise owner Tom Pentenburg said. “It is one of the largest in the world. All of our Spherion locations are franchise-owned.”

Bob and Grace Schulte previously owned the franchise. The baton was recently passed in August 2023 to Pentenburg and his wife, Elizabeth.

The business chose the Metro Center as its new location after Pentenburg called an old friend. Pentenburg said he grew up in Lima but currently lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

”Brian Walter (owner of the Metro Center) and I grew up together and I knew he was in business,” Pentenburg said. “I said, ‘Hey Brian, we are looking for a space in Lima. Do you have any thoughts?’ He said, ‘We own this building you might want to look at.’”

Walter said the apartments are currently filled with tenants, but he is looking for more businesses to occupy the commercial space.

“The city of Lima is experiencing a great rebirth of its downtown and the Metro Center,” Walter said. “Many great things are happening down here. We provide upscale apartments on the second through fifth floors, and we are currently supplying the first floor with quality commercial businesses.”
