Origin of Bath Township house fire deemed suspicious

BATH TOWNSHIP — A residential fire in Bath Township on Wednesday has been ruled suspicious in nature and the investigation has been turned over to the investigative unit of the Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office.

Firefighters from Bath Township, Perry Township, American Township and the city of Lima battled the blaze after receiving a report of a house fire at 2525 Harding Highway around 1:55 p.m. Wednesday.

Bath Township Fire Chief Joe Kitchen said the structure, owned by C&C Property Management of Lima, is believed to have been unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Officials estimate the damage to the three-story dwelling to be approximately $25,000. The home had a large amount of personal items and other contents throughout the structure, the chief said in a statement released Wednesday night.

Upon arrival the fire was well advanced and the first floor had partially collapsed, prohibiting firefighters from making entry, Kitchen said.

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, who were still on scene as of 8:50 p.m. Wednesday.
