Fire damages Mercer County dairy structure; livestock saved

CELINA — Crews from five Mercer County fire departments responded Tuesday evening to a structure fire at a rural Celina dairy farm and were able to extinguish the blaze with no loss of livestock.

According to Lt. Chad Willrath of the Celina Fire Department crews responded to the fire at 3081 Carmel Church Road at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mutual aid was provided by departments from Chattanooga, Coldwater, Mendon and Rockford. The fire resulted in heavy damage to a milking parlor at the property owned by Garrett and Judy Hellwarth.

Crews remained on the scene throughout the night checking for hot spots. The fire remains under investigation. There was no immediate estimate of damages.
