Putnam family-owned business featured on Fox

PUTNAM — After decades of work, a local family business will be highlighted in a “Manufacturing Marvels” segment on national television. Maverick Label is a store located at 416 North Agner Street in Putnam County that produces labels for other companies. The store originated almost 30 years ago. Owner Joe Ormsby said he and his wife purchased the company from his father-in-law a couple of years ago. On Monday evening, the business will be featured for its products and services.

“We were contacted about a month and a half ago by a show that runs on Fox Business called Manufacturing Marvels,” Ormsby said. “They were looking to showcase American businesses that manufacture American products and we match that criteria — they were looking for a company that was in the label manufacturing space, also known as converters. They gave us an opportunity and we jumped on it.”

According to Ormsby, the company creates pressure-sensitive and tag labels. He also said they create products for several other businesses throughout Putnam, Allen and Hancock counties.

“We ship all over the U.S. in just about every state,” Ormsby said. “We ship into Canada and also Mexico. Most of our customers are manufacturing facilities. We have a lot of car-part manufacturers and agricultural customers, who are using our labels as part of their business. Our labels will end up on the interior pieces of all of the cars that we drive because we make the labels for the suppliers who create the car parts.”

Ormsby said the company is just a “small, unsuspecting” building in Ottawa. The company looks forward to being highlighted and showcasing Northwest Ohio.
