Rescued Vintage opens its doors to the community

LIMA — A local shop has made room for vintage and antique items. Rescued Vintage opened its doors to community members Friday. The shop showcases homemade items, decor and furniture. The vision for the boutique was birthed from a dream and quality time with family members.

“I hung out with my great-grandparents and thought everybody liked the antique way back in the day,” Jill Herndon said. “Times change and trends change, but I loved the fact that everything (vintage items) was made by hand and more solid — it may not be in style but it is kind of fun to breathe new life into older things or items that need a little help.

The shop consists of many vintage items from paintings, vintage furniture and handmade goods. Herndon said she recently moved back to Lima and is excited to be home making her dream come true.

Rescued Vintage also has a unique selection of candy and cotton candy made in the store. Community members can purchase a sweet treat as they shop.

“We are an eclectic store where we have kind of a hodgepodge,” Herndon said. “We have a candy room where you can buy anything you want. You can mix and match it. There are different candies and soda flavors. We also have chocolates from England.”

The store hopes to host events including tea parties and “paint and sip” events. Vendors with unique or handmade items are welcomed to the store.

An open house will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the shop’s location at 3520 S. Dixie Highway. According to a recent Facebook post, the shop will provide popcorn, chili dogs and door prizes. The store is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
