Multiple departments battle blaze at condo complex

LIMA — Multiple area fire departments responded to a fire late Monday night at an American Township apartment complex.

The fire began late in the evening Monday at the Gatehouse Living Community, 2275 N. Cable Road, Lima, with the American Township Fire Department notified of the fire in Building 9 at 10:49 p.m.

After a second and then a third fire alarm were called, fire crews from the American Township, Bath Township, Delphos, Lima and Shawnee Township Fire Departments responded to assist. Fire crews could be seen battling a blaze in a second-story residence at the apartment complex. American Electric Power also assisted at the scene, according to a post on the American Township Fire Department’s Facebook page.

By the time the fire was extinguished, seven units were impacted, according to the condominium office, with the displaced residents receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. No one was injured at the scene, but one person was transported to a hospital due to a medical condition, according to American Township Fire Department’s Facebook post.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the total cost in property damage is still being determined.
