Radio station collects gifts for Christmas

LIMA — As the holiday season approaches, organizations are doing their part to help give. Radio Station 92.1 the Frog hosted its annual ‘Care-A-Van’ on Tuesday. As Walmart shoppers walked in the doors, the station presented a card with potential items to be donated.

“We partnered with SignPro Imaging here in Lima and Bob Evans Manufacturing,” 92.1 The Frog’s Program Director, Tyler Avila said. “We are collecting items for Allen County Children Services — any non-perishable items (toys, games, movies, shoes and socks). Once we get all the donations given to us today from people out and about shopping, we will fill the frog van up and take it to Allen County Children tomorrow.”

The station waited at the doors from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. to collect purchased donations for Allen County Children Services. Avila said the organization had a great turnout with people deciding to give this year. The donations will help the agency provide Christmas gifts to children in need.

“They have been doing it each year,” ACCS Communications and Outreach Coordinator Greg Sowinski said. “It is just really important to our agency because with our Christmas programs, we have deadlines — these presents are vital to basically filling the last-minute gifts for children up to Christmas Eve.”

Sowinski said ACCS continues to help children throughout the year. The donations are matched with families before the Christmas season comes to an end.

“It (the program) is just really important,” Sowinski said. “It gives us a chance to make sure all our families and all the children have Christmas. There is no reason (they can not have Christmas). With the help of the ‘Care-a-Van,’ we can make sure all children get at least something.”
