Lima hires Foster as new finance director

LIMA — The City of Lima welcomed a new finance director at the mayor’s press conference on Wednesday morning. Meredith (Meri) Foster will now oversee the city’s finances.

“She brings over 30 years of experience in finance and accounting,” Mayor Sharetta Smith said. “She most recently served as the executive director of finance at Lima Memorial Health System. She was responsible for investments, budgeting, accounting, patient accounting, registration, medical records and supply chain issues.”

Foster’s predecessor Steven Cleaves retired from the position in February after over 20 years.

“My goals for the city are to be able to help them (from a financial perspective) to pursue all the goals the mayor has for renovating the city and bringing it back to its former glory,” Foster said. “I want to get to know all the different ideas from the Better Together Plan and see them come to fruition.”

As the director of finance, Foster will analyze feasibility studies, investments and the city budget. She also said financially the city is strong.

“The city is very strong,” Foster said. “They have a strong balance sheet and cash reserves so that way we have the ability to put all these plans in place. I want to ensure we continue on the same path of being strong financially.”
