LPD looking to recruit more officers

LIMA — The Lima Police Department has created a recruitment team to hire more officers. The Lima Police Department shared about the team at the City Council meeting Monday evening.

”This was a team that was formed once Chief [Angel] Cortes became chief,” Lima Police Department Lt. Matthew Douglass said. “He wanted to put some of the decisions in the hands of some of the patrol officers.”

Douglass also said the team attends job fairs and hiring events. The department has also utilized social media to share the team with the community.

“Some of the challenges we have run into is the nationwide recruitment problem,” Douglass said. “It is not just the Lima Police Department. There is a shortage of police departments all over the country.”

The council also approved several ordinances and adopted one resolution to declare the necessity of constructing certain sidewalks. According to the communications letter, 96 homes received notifications about the sidewalks in need of repairs. The letter also said 88 locations did not comply. Community members can reportedly use the Sidewalk repair rebate program through the city. The letter states the program will help with ‘partial reimbursement’.

The Lima Fire Department received a donation of $300 following council approval. The funding was from the Independent Insurance Agents for the department’s Car Seat Program.
