Cause of death released for man found dead at gas station

LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office has released additional details regarding the deceased individual found Tuesday evening at a Lima gas station.

The individual, identified as Pedro Varrga, 21, of Louisville, Kentucky, was discovered in his parked vehicle unresponsive at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Speedway, 1875 Harding Highway, Lima. With Varrga’s death initially considered suspicious, the Lucas County Coroner conducted an autopsy, with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office conducting an investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau examined Varrga’s vehicle, according to the release, and found an excessive amount of carbon monoxide leaking into the interior of the vehicle. The cause of death has been determined, according to the release, to be accidental death due to carbon monoxide poisoning. It is believed that Varrga stopped at the gas station to rest while traveling through the area.

The next of kin has been notified of the coroner’s findings, according to the release.
