Legacy Arts Street Party to return Saturday

LIMA — The Legacy Arts Street Party Music Festival will return to Lima’s Main Street all day Saturday.

Local businesses and volunteers are collaborating again for the event which will feature live music from several performers, food trucks, a drink and beer tent and art activities throughout the day starting at noon.

“It’s going to be the biggest lineup of music that we’ve had so far,” Jennifer Brogee, member of the Legacy Arts board, said. “We’re really excited that we have music going on from a variety of artists between noon and 8 p.m. for free. We’ll also have over 50 booths with makers and artists from all over Ohio that will be here showing off their creativity as well as food trucks including Taco Movil and everyone’s favorite beverages and snacks.”

Brogee, who also owns The Meeting Place on Market, said that booking acts like Heather Redman and The Reputation, Fox Royale, McCartney Robinson and Ohio’s Home Alone would not have been possible without help from volunteers, local businesses and sponsors like Sullivan Insurance and Mercy Health.

“It’s been a real joy to get the feedback from people that are sponsoring us,” she said. “And this is the first year that we’re also sponsored by the Ohio Council of the Arts, so that’s exciting for us, as well. We just keep adjusting as we get more sponsors and musicians.”

Legacy Arts brings out a wide variety of artists every year, from indie rock to R&B, and it is all about opening the audience up to new music.

“Our goal is to have artists who maybe aren’t the standard artists that you see. We like to get a variety of music from all over Ohio,” Brogee said. “We tried to get a whole bunch of different genres so that people can experience different styles and we really want to encourage people to come and listen to something different that they might not usually listen to.”

Brogee said she expects the atmosphere to be positive no matter what.

“It’s a very family-friendly, upbeat, positive and diverse community gathering,” she said. “Even though you have a lot of people coming out and having fun, it will be relaxed and it won’t feel overly crowded since we’re taking over a lot of Main Street. We’re using all the space so people can walk around and listen to the music. It will be very relaxed and everybody will be supporting each other.”

But for anyone who went to last year’s festival, Brogee said the event should be bigger and better than ever.

“And the other thing is that we are providing music continuously so while the bands are switching over their gear, we actually have DJ Fink, who is a really awesome DJ and plays a lot of different genres, as well,” she said. “He’s really good at mixing it up and doing some crowdpleasers and mixing in some new music. We’re excited to have him there to be between the acts.”

And it will be significant for Brogee to see people enjoy the festival.

“It’s nice to realize that we’re creating a positive atmosphere and experience in the city,” she said. “I am excited to see the community come out and support artists, musicians, and makers who are putting their heart into their art. I am excited to see the community come together in downtown Lima – to celebrate what our region has to offer and to have fun doing it.”

Parking for this event will be available on side streets, including behind Main St. businesses such as Alter Ego Comics.
