First National Bank second location coming soon

LIMA — One bank is expanding its tent pegs in Allen County. First National Bank broke ground for its second location. The business received its start over 100 years ago in Ohio. Due to the success of the bank in Elida, an additional location will be coming soon.

“First National Bank has been in business for 104 years,” First National Bank President Todd Mason said. “We do that just by taking care of communities. We came to Lima just a year and a half ago and this worked out so well that we decided to put in a second one. Our community has been asking for it and we are really trying to take care of our community.”

Mason opened his statement with prayer. Mayor Sharetta Smith followed suit by sharing a scripture from the Bible about community and the importance of building.

“I do think about the scripture that states ‘without a vision, the people perish,’ ” Smith said. “That is what is important about groundbreaking because it allows people to see what is possible in a community — this tells me that Lima is good ground. It also tells me Lima is a where you want to sow your seed and a place where you will see a harvest.”

Mason said the company is centered in community banking.

“What we do is simply take money from one person to another person, that person buys something from another person and then deposits it back with us,” Mason said. “The same dollar community goes around seven times. If you buy local, if you bank local. The moment you don’t buy local, the moment you don’t bank local that money goes to a larger place. We can always use your business here.”

The hope is to open the new branch in May of 2024. The set location is 1991 Bellefontaine Road, Lima.
