Fugitive suspect in Alabama murder case arrested in Lima

LIMA — A suspect in an Alabama murder was captured early Friday in Lima.

According to a release from the U.S. Marshals Service, Alyssa Jewel Stewart, 19, was captured Friday in Lima by members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force. The arrest was made after task force members found her at a home in the 1100 block of Knollwood Drive in Lima, according to the release. She was arrested without incident and is in custody at the Allen County Jail pending extradition back to Alabama.

Stewart is the fifth person to be arrested in connection with the October 2022 shooting death of Treyvous Cobbins, 22, of Evergreen, Alabama, according to the release. Three of the other suspects, Derrick Demetrius Thomas, 20, Le’Morion Lorenzo Fantroy, 20, and Siyonesty Marchalle Gill, 19, had been arrested by the Marshals Service, while the fourth suspect, Teddy Donnell Cozart, 20, was arrested in May by Indiana State Troopers.

The warrant for Stewart had been issued in May in Covington County, Alabama. The investigation led to the discovery of a possible hiding area in Lima, which led to Stewart’s apprehension, according to the release.

“Fugitives wanted for crimes of violence will find no hiding spots in northern Ohio,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement. “They will be caught and removed from our communities.”
