Local artists sell creations at ArtSpace/Lima

LIMA — Artspace/Lima hosted an art show Friday afternoon to celebrate the Pangle Pavilion and Greater Lima Region Amphitheater’s grand-opening weekend. Artists from around the region showcased their favorite creations. One local artist decided to use her love of sewing to create animal accessories.

“I make pet bow-ties for dogs and cats,” Artist Pam Casey said. “They are all handmade and I sell them at different markets in the region. I have sewn for a lot of years but I have only been doing this for two years.”

The event was held next to the city’s newest event venue. Casey, among the many other artists, simply enjoys creating and wanted to share with others.

“I think this is a great opportunity for Lima,” Casey said. “I am glad to be able to participate.”

Casey named her business ‘Going Ga-Ga for Bow Ties’ after her granddaughter gave her the nickname.

Other artists featured photography, paintings, woodworking and so much more. One artist travels the region painting portraits of community members.

“I create portraits by taking pictures (of people), then I stretch it out and begin painting,” artist Patrick Romick said.

Romick said he began painting at the age of 5 and continued to pursue his passion. Romick also said he often paints for people he finds throughout the community.

“I go all over,” Romick said. “I go to Lima, Findlay and Marion.”

The art show took place just moments before the event center’s second concert since its opening. On Friday evening, Al Jardine, the Indoorfins and Kevin Ashba joined in to entertain community members.
