Real Wheels: All in the family for ‘67 LeMans

LIMA – Justin Ness knows how to make an entrance.

Case in point: The Happy Daz Cool Car Cruise-in.

Held every Wednesday during the summer, the cruise-in was well on its way May 25th when Justin and his wife, Taylor, came roaring in with their 1967 Pontiac LeMans convertible. The roar of the big block engine in his 1967 Pontiac LeMans seemingly commanded the large crowd to “look at me.”

The LeMans is named after the French city of Le Mans, the site of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world’s oldest active endurance sports car race since it began in 1923.

Ness has owned his LeMans for nine years. He inherited it from his grandfather, Jerald Snyder. Snyder had the car restored after purchasing the vehicle from a classmate of his daughter’s. The red paint job was done by Bob McCoy.

“My grandpa and I took it to a lot of car shows around the area,” Ness said. “We spent time working on it together. That’s something I really enjoyed and it’s what makes the car special.”

Pontiac produced five different generations of the LeMans from 1961-1993. The 1967 model owned by Ness was the last of the second generation that spanned from 1964 to 1967. It has a distinctive look with its stacked headlights and split grill.

It also was one of the 9,820 convertibles produced that year.
