New film set in Lima to premiere Saturday

LIMA — On Saturday, Lima will be up on the big screen.

Local artist Matthew Sanders has turned his dreams into a reality with the new film “Up the Score.” Sanders said the movie production is about a man who is married, in the military and ultimately falls ‘in love’ with someone else. Sanders said the film contains the life lesson that the ‘grass is not always greener on the other side’.

Sanders is not only a filmmaker but also an author. After 10 months of writing the script, filming and producing, “Up the Score” is now ready for its premiere. Sanders spoke at Mayor Sharetta Smith’s media briefing Wednesday morning to share his experiences

“It takes a lot of dedication, a lot of detail, structure and discipline to create a movie,” Sanders said. “I found out that filming is the fun part. (Everything happens before) all your planning is where you want to shoot your locations.”

Sanders also noted that Lima will be on full display in his new film.

“It is a great movie,” he said. “We’re very proud of it and wait to show the world my vision and the artistic aspects in my head and showcase Lima talent. There is only one person that is not from Lima that is in the movie.”

This film will give viewers the chance to get to know Sanders through his work, he said.

“I live in my head, it’s always rolling,” Sanders said. “I always want to show and let people know what I have going on. I like to do things on creative content based on experience or things I have gone through. It’s like a journal for me to express what I have going on and then maybe motivate and inspire other people.”

Smith presented a proclamation to Sanders naming Saturday “Up the Score” Day in Lima.

“I want to thank you for sharing your movie not just with Lima but with the world and also being intentional about it,” she said. “Thank you for giving individuals an opportunity to showcase that talent and change the narrative around Lima’s reputation and what it is that we are known for. I want you to know your labor of love is not in vain.”

Sanders said the movie will premiere on other streaming platforms soon.
