Josh Buetner, last year’s Second Flight winner, was the only golfer to shoot par when seven of the eight flights in the Lima City Men’s Golf Championship kicked off the tournament with qualifying rounds on Wednesday.
The only flight which did not hold a qualifying round on Wednesday was the championship flight, which begins play on Thursday morning.
Buetner shot a 72 at Hidden Creek for the low round in the open flights qualifying. That earned him a first-round bye in match play in the First Flight. He had five birdies, eight pars and five bogeys. The rest of the top five in the open flights were: Tony Moore with a 73, Carter Frey at 73, B.J. McPheron with a 75, and Clay Plaugher with a 77.
Troy Breidenbach led the Senior Championship Flight scores with a 74, followed by Dean Meyer 76, Lee Bowman 76, Dennis Madeiros 76 and Gary Karch 78 at the Bluffton Golf Club.
Denny Thompson had the low round of 73 in the Super Senior flight. Jim Troyer shot a 76, Joseph Bailey and Mike Miller had 79s and Doug Kent shot an 80 at Bluffton.
The top five scores in the Super Senior Plus Flight belonged to Dan Garlock 74, Robert Hollar 77, David Webb 77, Mike Allen 77 and Jim Odenweller 78 at Bluffton.
In the Senior Open Flight at Bluffton, Tim Grigsby led the way with a 74, followed by Todd Coil 79, William Cole 80, Eric Worsham 81, and Keith Augustus 82 and Jim Sherrick 82.
