New events at Amphitheater announced for opening weekend

LIMA — Guest speakers at Monday’s Lima Rotary Club meeting provided updates about the opening weekend for the Greater Lima Region Park & Amphitheater.

Bart Mills of the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima, Jessica Cunningham of Allen Lima Leadership and Carmen Cecala-Wells of the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center informed the club about the activities including a hog roast, a free art fair and a free family street fair to go along with the musical performances scheduled to take over the venue for its opening weekend from Aug. 2 to 6.

“We just wanted to remind the community about opening weekend and what amazing acts are going to be there that we’re able to provide,” Cecala-Wells said. “We are so excited to be a part of this opening weekend and to bring these events to the community.”

The festivities will start with A Roast to the City, hosted by the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima, on Wednesday, Aug. 2. Tickets for the roast will be on sale June 26 at the Civic Center box office.

Friday, Aug. 4, ArtSpace/Lima will host a free Art Fair along Spring and Union Streets featuring artists selling their work and demonstrating it. Performers will also take the stage to present their work to the public from noon to 6 p.m.

The free street fair presented by this year’s Allen Lima Leadership class on Saturday, Aug. 5 will see food trucks, bounce houses and face painting from noon until that day’s concert begins.

Performing at the Pangle Pavilion and Greater Lima Regional Park and Amphitheater will be All-4-One on Thursday, Al Jardine on Friday and Ian Munsick on Saturday.

“I can’t wait to see the turnout and for people to come out and just have a four-day weekend where we can celebrate what the city has to offer and what it’s becoming,” Cecala-Wells said. “It will be a nice family-friendly environment and a great place for everyone to come and enjoy before coming into the shows in the evening.”

The RTA trolley will also be on hand to shuttle residents to and from events throughout the days, as well.
