LIMA — Moviegoers are gearing up to watch the latest “Fast and Furious” entry this weekend.
But Cirque Italia is bringing some of the same stunts and stunt drivers that can be seen on the screen to the Lima Mall with its new Nitro Extreme show.
“Basically what we’ve done is taken the stunt drivers from movies like ‘The Fast and the Furious’ and all of those big action-packed movies that we love so much and we’ve brought them into a live show,” Chelcie Nugent, the host and production manager for the show, said. “It’s just such an unseen talent and they’re always behind the scenes in the movies and we said, ‘Why not bring them out and show people who they are and what they can do?’ We actually feature real stunt drivers from these movies who do synchronized drifting and riding on two wheels with high-speed passes and we also have incredible motorcycle stunts.”
Nugent said that there are a few things that are special about the shows, which will run Thursday through Sunday with two shows Saturday and Sunday.
“The parents are just as excited and amazed as the kids, so it’s a really incredible bonding event for the whole family,” Nugent said. “The kids and their parents have their jaws drop the whole time. When all of our motorcycle and car drivers go out front and meet and greet, they sign autographs with the fans. It’s a whole event and besides the concessions and merchandise, we even give the opportunity during the intermission to take rides in one of the cars with a stunt driver.”
The Nitro Extreme show is new to the tune of about eight months for Cirque Italia, but they feature world champions in their areas of expertise from all over the world with over 15 years of experience.
Nugent said that fans can take advantage of coupon offers being posted on fliers across town for $5 off tickets.
“We’re really hoping to get a big turnout from the crowds in Lima for this once-in-a-lifetime bonding experience for the family,” she said.
Shows for Nitro Extreme start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with an early show on Saturday at 4:30, as well. Shows on Sunday start at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m.
