Yung Gravy to headline Oiler Music Festival

FINDLAY — Yung Gravy is coming to the University of Findlay.

The Minnesota rapper who was born Matt Hauri will headline the school’s Oiler Music Festival, which starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Koehler Recreation Center.

“It’s something different than we’ve done in the years before, but I think people can look forward to having a new memory on campus,” Student Government Association President Ashlyn Coleman said. “I think being on campus surrounded by their fellow classmates and community members will be something to remember for students.”

Coleman said that the process to organize the concert, which will include a supporting act and an opener to go with Yung Gravy, started in October and that it was a constant grind to figure out things like which production company to hire.

“All the people who had to chime in, from our facilities and maintenance crews to our student volunteers, faculty and staff, were all a big chunk of the puzzle,” she said. “The past couple of months, I think it’s safe to say that there have not been more than two days in which some type of work was not being put into the concert.”

Coleman thinks it will be well worth it to see an artist like Yung Gravy, who went viral in the latter part of the 2010s with a mix of modern trap music and humorous themes, perform for graduating seniors like herself.

“I’m looking forward to being able to have one last core memory from college before I leave in May,” she said. “It’ll be a nice way to go out, not only being proud of helping to put it on but also to see all of my classmates being surrounded by our friends for one last big event of the semester.”

That is in line with what she hopes the audience takes away from the show, which has historically featured other stars like Jason DeRulo and T-Pain.

“I really hope the audience has something to look forward to with another concert here in a couple of years,” Coleman said. “Bringing it back this year, I feel like we’ll keep that desire of having a concert every couple of years going. I feel like not a lot of schools get to something like this so being able to be a student that went to this and knowing that this one thing at Findlay was super cool will inspire them for years to come.”

Tickets to the festival are available through the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts website. UF students, faculty and staff will receive discounts.
