Kalida bank robbery suspect out on bond

FINDLAY — A Findlay man accused of committing a string of bank robberies, including one in Kalida, was released on bond after a federal court detention hearing last week, according to a Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

Gage Daniel Shafer Haws, 28, is a suspect in the following regional bank robberies: Premier Bank in Arlington on Dec. 31, Old Fort Bank in Bettsville on Feb. 2, Union Bank in Kalida on Feb. 11 and State Bank and Trust Company in Delta on Feb. 16. The man is also a suspect in the attempted robbery of the First National Bank of Sycamore in McCutchenville on Feb. 10.

According to the Facebook post, the bond was set low for a bank robbery suspect.

“It was a very low bond and took the FBI by surprise, as well, as the agent stated that the normal bond for a string of suspected bank robberies is typically pretty high,” the post read.

Haws was arrested on Feb. 24 at his home by the Findlay Police Department SWAT Team.

“So, as always, be aware of your surroundings and if you see anything suspicious don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement agency to check it out,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.
