Lima’s plans: out with old, in with the new — Council OKs replacing 90 workstations, 20 laptops

LIMA — The City of Lima met for its bi-monthly meeting on Monday evening. Shaunna Basinger was granted the privilege of the floor speaking on behalf of the Lima/Allen County Regional Planning Commission. Basinger shared about the upcoming event at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at 130 W. North street that will entail the upcoming transportation projects for the organization.

“This is a list of up and coming transportation projects that is completed every four years in collaboration with our subdivisions and ODOT,” said Basinger.

Basinger revealed the event will showcase the plans of the organization and all community members are welcome to attend.

City Council also approved multiple ordinances. Council approved a change in zoning for a parcel located at 509 Columbia Drive. The class 1 residential will now be transformed into office space. Council also approved the salary for the Public Information Officer up to $80,000 and for the mayor to enter into a contract with govdeals.com. The city is making plans to get rid of multiple printers, computers and electronic equipment and replace them. According to the communications letter, the City plans to replace 90 workstations and 20 laptops for up t0 $135,000.

Council approved contracts for the City of Lima with Crime Victim Services and Fairbanks Scales for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. According to the communications letter, the treatment plant will be upgrading its truck scales and software for up to $72,511.

A petition was filed for the vacation of an alley between Calumet Ave. and Grove Ave. According to the petition, the alley runs through the site where the city plans to build the future Lima City Pool.

JJ Parkey and Carlos Cardova joined the council meeting to share their plans for the week with the help of Sixth Ward Council Member Dr. Derry Glenn and Dr. Vickie Shurelds. The Lovewell staff members are creating a play with 14 students in just 6 days as a way to embrace the arts.

“The arts are something that can completely changes lives,” said Parkey. “So many lives have been changed by Dr. Shurelds and Lovewell Institute. We are very grateful for this partnership.”
