Ty Causey & The Real Deal to hit Old City Prime

LIMA — An international R&B recording artist will make his way back to the stage at Old City Prime for the first time in a while.

Ty Causey & The Real Deal will return to the Upper Lounge at 8 p.m. Saturday.

“The first time I came here, I was in a two-piece before I ended up losing my partner to cancer,” Causey said. “I’ve played on the keyboard by myself as a solo act the past five years now, but when Old City found out about my band they invited us last year. It was a really great experience for everybody and the owner was kind enough to invite us back.”

Causey, a veteran performer with 19 recordings to his name, knows what to bring to the venue: funk and soul classics.

“This particular show is going to be fun for me and the band and especially the Lima community because I’m going to be doing a lot of old school music that they [know] a lot of,” he said. “I’ll also be doing some of my own original material as well. The band will be able to show their individuality with their solos and stuff. I think people will really get a kick out of it because I have some really great musicians that play with me.”

That ties into what Causey would want the audience to come away from their performance with: that real music is still in demand.

“Real music, from back in the day, when crooners and musicians were really making great music and there were no substitutions for vocals or anything with electronic stuff that was manipulating the true sound is what we’re going to deliver as a full live band,” he said. “Everything you see on that stage is going to be live and it’s going to be music that everybody can gravitate to. But for the most part, the real-life formula that I want people to take away from this is that live bands are still around and if you know how to do it well, people will appreciate it.”

For fans of Causey’s music, he will have new releases set for later this year.

“We’re just finishing up a brand new CD called ‘Faithful and True’,” he said. “It’s that jazz, R&B flavor with a touch of funk and it’s all original music again this time around. And it should be coming out sometime this summer. I will be releasing two or three songs from it shortly too and they will be available worldwide on all digital platforms. I’m looking forward to that and hoping people keep their eyes out for that.”
