Open blues jam set to hit Elks Lodge

LIMA — The Lima Elks Lodge will be the place to be Thursday for anyone who has a love of the blues.

Anyone interested can not only go enjoy the Greater Allen County Blues Society Open Jam at 7 p.m., but if they choose, they can join in on the music.

“It’s an open jam, meaning anyone who plays an instrument or sings is welcomed on stage,” organizer Jim Edwards said. “The music is highly concentrated on the blues as the blues jam is a gathering of people who enjoy listening to and playing the blues.”

Edwards said that a lot of work goes into putting on the event, which will include a $3 cover for non-members of the lodge and will have beverages and food available.

“The previous one was for the most part standing room only and ran out of time to get everyone on stage,” he said. “That’s why it’s vital to get there early and sign the sheet. It’s a safe comfortable atmosphere and it’s a great way to unwind after a day.”

Edward added that if anyone has questions about the event, music director Brad Allen Jones is on hand to assist with all stage questions.

“Bring your instrument, sign in early and have fun,” he said. “It’s really great when a handful of players hit the stage and never played together and make magic all for the love of the music.”

GACBS Open Jams takes place the third Thursday of each month and are scheduled through June. The Brad Allen Jones Band hosts the event as the house band and local radio DJ Billy Elvis emcees.

There will also be merchandise available, as well as tickets to Bluesfest 2023 on April 1 at Veterans Memorial Civic Center and a 50/50 raffle.
