Roundup: Ottawa-Glandorf girls, Wapakoneta boys win WBL swimming crowns

The Ottawa-Glandorf girls and Wapakoneta boys secured Western Buckeye League swimming championships Saturday.

O-G’s Marissa Beckett won the 200 IM and teamed up with Olivia Fenbert, Morgan Maag and Taylor Knott to finish first in the 200 freestyle relay.

Shawnee’s Addisyn Newman won the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and was also on the first-place 200 medley relay team along with Morgan Schimmoeller, Ansley Newman, and Kayla Frost. Schimmoeller also won the 200 freestyle.

Kenton’s Riley Hunt (diving), Wapakoneta’s Katie Bauer (100 butterfly), Celina’s Brooklyn Bourne (100 freestyle), Van Wert’s Haley Chiles (500 freestyle) and Elida’s Arleigh Amspoker (100 backstroke) each won an event and Amspoker joined Avery Bowers, Ally Sharp and Vivian Elrod in winning the 400 freestyle relay.

Wapakoneta’s Alex Honigford won the 200 and 500 freestyles and was a member of the first-place 200 freestyle relay team with Gannon Casebolt, Julian Jordan and Owen Becker and 400 freestyle relay team with Aidan Schneider, Luke Wierwille and Casebolt. Becker, Ross Honigford, Schneider and Wierwille were first in 200 medley relay.

Wierwille (50 freestyle) and Becker (100 backstroke) also won individual events.

St. Marys’ Reese Triplett (200 IM) and Dylan Hertenstein (diving), Van Wert’s Jayden Welker (100 butterfly) and Sam Houg (100 freestyle) and Celina’s Jackson Newcomb (100 breaststroke) were among the individual event winners.

Cavalier Invitational

PORTLAND, Ind. — Versailles won the boys and girls team titles.

The Versailles boys finished with 169 points followed by New Bremen (91), Coldwater (89), Marion Local (53.5), Fort Recovery (49) and St. Henry (6.5).

The Versailles girls had 150 points followed by Fort Recovery (94.5), New Bremen (81), Coldwater (67.5), Minster (57), Marion Local (34) and St. Henry (33).

ST. MARYS — Austin Parks set a St. Marys single game scoring record with 45 points, breaking Dave Williams’ 1965 mark by two. Jace Turner had 24 points and Brayden Sullivan scored 15 also for the Roughriders.

BATH TOWNSHIP — Cole Craddock had 16 points and Drake Craddock scored 13 for the host Wildcats.

DOLA — Landon Wetherill had eight points and Sean Kuhlman scored seven for Hardin Northern.

KALIDA — The hosts outscored Wayne Trace 19-13 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Evan Stechschulte had 16 points and Drew Fersch and Ethan Warnecke each scored 10 for Kalida.

VAN BUREN — Tori Thomas had 15 points and Zori Island, A’Mari Wash and David Etxkorn each scored 10 for the visiting Bulldogs.
