Howl’oween 5K fun for two legs or four

LIMA — Whether the runner had two legs or four, Sunday’s event at Faurot Park was a howlin’ good time.

The Lima Kiwanis Club held its fourth annual Howl’oween Trick or Trot 5K run/walk at Faurot Park and Woodlawn Cemetery to support the youth activities that their club provides to area students. Runners from Lima and the surrounding areas congregated at the park just off Woodlawn Avenue. The run started in the park and extended through Woodlawn Cemetery finishing again in Faurot Park.

Kyle and Kelsey Kauser came down from Antwerp. The kids were dressing with cousins and running. Kelsey’s sister Maycee Denning also from Antwerp organized the family event. When asked why, Denning answered,” We like Halloween and running. We’re the crazy family that does Halloween races.”

Sky, a four-legged runner came up from Wapakoneta. Her running partner Kandee Shook explained, “She’s my little partner. She loves to run with me. I enjoy doing local 5K’s and giving back to the community. She runs with me all the time. We always joke that when I do a 5K she’s already run like a 10K.”

Proceeds are used to support kids at schools in the Lima district as well as Heir Force Community School. The club sponsors K-Kids for elementary school, Builders Club for middle school, Key Club for high school, Circle-K at the college level and the Aktion Club for individuals with developmental disabilities. Proceeds are also used to provide scholarships for anyone who participated in the student clubs.

The 5K run also included a virtual pet contest and a mile fun run.
