Vacant Lima house a total loss after fire

LIMA — A vacant house was rendered a total loss after a fire late Tuesday night in Lima.

According to the Lima Fire Department, a fire was reported at 618 E. Vine St., with fire crews arriving at 11:52 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the front of the house, which was in a state of disrepair with overgrown vegetation. Firefighters then took a defensive strategy when combating the fire, keeping it contained to the structure. Crews remained at the scene until 2:10 a.m.

The house, valued at $18,000, was considered a total loss after the fire was extinguished. No cause has been determined as of yet. According to the Allen County Auditor’s website, the property has been owned since 1980 by Beatrice Deubler. However, according to the Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home website, Deubler died in May 2014.

The fire remains under investigation.
