Allen County opens door to credit payments

LIMA — Allen County is expanding its payment options at various locations. The Allen County Commissioners have assigned Treasurer Krista Bohn to oversee the financial transaction project.

The project entails obtaining a new device for the departments within Allen County including the Auditor, Coroner, Recorder, Clerk of Courts, County Engineer, Sheriff, Commissioner, Prosecutor and Treasurer. Each department will have the option to pursue a third pay option of credit.

As the treasurer’s office seeks to find a new payment vendor, Allen County opened the door to the possibility. The project will allow Allen County offices to choose it if they feel it is necessary at this time. As of now, the Treasurer, Sheriff, Prosecutor, and Clerk of Courts plan to move forward with the payment option.

“We know there are several offices that want to add credit cards as one of their payment options,” said Bohn. “The goal is to look at what you are looking for, what you would be using it for and what the need would be.”

Bohn added that Allen County is seeking to find a vendor with better rates and to create a more unified payment platform. In the future, the new platform would have an online payment portal where a customer can choose which office they need to pay.

“The purpose of going through this process and finding a vendor that works for the County,” said Bohn. “It gets us a better rate because everyone is under the same umbrella. The other is we have a vetted and contracted vendor. We know that they have reviewed everything we know about their security measures. We also want to keep our accounts as safe as possible and have a good working relationship with our vendor that we trust.”

The Allen County Engineer’s office met with the Treasurer and Allen County Commissioners to discuss the project at Tuesday morning’s meeting.

The Engineer’s office will continue to discuss the project before the time comes to utilize the new addition.

The projected completion date is around February of next year. The cost to each office is the purchase of card readers. Customers will have to pay a convenience fee while using the new devices.
