Ada police chief to retire next year

ADA — After more than 38 years in law enforcement and over 21 of those as the Ada Police Department’s chief, Chief Michael Harnishfeger will retire from the position effective June 30, 2023, according to a release from the department.

Harnishfeger announced his intention to retire to Ada Mayor David Retterer and the village council during an executive session Tuesday, the release said. The village plans to begin an immediate search for Harnishfeger’s replacement. The village will employ the services of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police to conduct an assessment center to evaluate the finalists, with that process expected to take place late this year.

Resumes for the position will be accepted until Oct. 10. The goal is for the new chief to work with Harnishfeger over several months before Harnishfeger retires.
