This week’s updates on the coronavirus pandemic

COVID risk level ‘high’ in most of Lima region

• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday renewed its high-risk advisory for Allen, Auglaize and Van Wert counties. Hardin County was added to the list of high-risk counties Friday, while Putnam County was listed as medium risk.

There were 13.8 new hospital admissions for COVID-19 illness per 100,000 people in the Allen County area in the last seven days, the CDC reported Friday.

Patients with COVID-19 occupied 3.2% of staffed inpatient beds, an increase from the previous week. Still, there were no new deaths attributed to COVID-19 reported in the five-county region in the last week, the Ohio Department of Health reported Thursday.

Public health officials are urging residents in high-risk communities to wear well-fitting masks in indoor public places and to stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines. Anyone who develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should get tested to avoid spreading the virus.
